The city
The city of Bakarac is situated in the Bakarac bay, not very far from Rijeka. The local economy is mostly based on tourism, agriculture and fishery. In Roman times the city was a military base.
It is a well-known place for its original wooden perches, which are nowadays still preserved and were used very efficiently for catching tunas.

Also, the period of the beginning of the tunny-fishing season was in the old times customarily accompanied by the fishing nets transportation from Bakarac to Bakar, which was very attracting for local and foreign visitors. Bakarac is surrounded by cement beaches, each known for its own name.
The beaches from the direction of Rijeka are as follows: Kupalište, Mala plažica, Palada, Skalada, Melina, Prva kućica, Druga kućica, Sansovo, Kavranić.
